From Paralysis to Purpose
In August 2016, my life changed overnight. I simply woke up paralyzed while I was living in Lagos, Nigeria. What followed was a long painful period with no answers.
I spent millions of naira on hospital visits yet my condition only worsened. Eventually, I returned home to my family in Indianapolis, Indiana, where I was finally diagnosed with a debilitating autoimmune condition.
Doctors told me this would be my “new normal”, a life of chronic pain, inflammation, daily medications, and steroid injections and I was completely devastated.
Each day became a mystery. I never knew what level of pain I’d wake up to. Planning for tomorrow felt impossible. I kept up appearances, pretending to “live,” just to avoid the pity, but inside, I was barely surviving.
From Desperation to Discovery
With no background in health or wellness since I studied Criminal Justice and Psychology at Chicago State University, I felt completely lost but something in me refused to believe that healing was impossible.
That desperation led me to something unexpected: herbalism, natural healing through ancestral remedies, and the powerful truth that food can be medicine. As soon as I felt strong enough, I packed my bags and returned to Lagos.
I knew I needed the mental and emotional space to fully immerse myself in this new path. I started small, reading, researching, consulting herbalists and naturopaths, and carefully experimenting with what I put into my body. Slowly but surely, I began to feel better. I gradually weaned off medications and started to reclaim my health.
Most importantly, I discovered what I now know to be true: The body remembers how to heal when we give it what it needs and take away what harms it.
From Kitchen Remedies to a Movement of Wellness
As I continued to heal, I began crafting my own tonics at home using raw, organic ingredients. I chose to ferment herbs in my homemade, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (ACV) instead of alcohol. This was just a choice rooted in both intention and intuition.
Through trial, tradition, and trust in the process, I developed powerful elixirs like:
